Just before lunchtime on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, several Keewatin Patricia and Kenora Catholic District School Board schools were placed in either a brief lockdown or secure school. This was due to the Kenora detachment of Ontario Provincial Police responding to a situation near St. Thomas Aquinas, but off of school property.
Schools that were affected included Beaver Brae Secondary School, the KCDSB Kenora Campus, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, St. John Paul II School, École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys and Catholic Education Centre, Evergreen Public School, Valleyview Public School, and King George Public School. Kiizhik School with Bimose Tribal Council was also under a brief lockdown around the same time.
Ontario Provinical Police released an update that the situation was resolved a short time later and classes resumed. There was no threat to public safety at that time.
