Beware of fake currency going around the Kenora area.

The Kenora OPP say that members of the force were alerted to a bogus $20.00 Canadian bill being used to pay for a taxi fare. After an investigation it was determined that a fare had passed a counterfeit “prop” money $20.00 bill to pay for the taxi fare on February 2nd.

The taxi operator turned it over to the Kenora OPP for processing, The investigation is ongoing.

The Bank of Canada has online resources if you suspect counterfeit currency as well as methods to detect legitimacy.

Checking bank notes protects everyone. Routinely checking the security features of all notes-large and small-allows you to intercept counterfeits and keep them out of circulation.
