Kenora OPP say that around 2:30pm on March 4th, the detachment responded to reports of a transport truck on fire on Highway 17 near Bee Lake.
Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly, which caused the tractor unit to become fully engulfed.
The driver escaped the vehicle safely and no injuries were reported. OPP say that “the trailer was carrying a load of styrofoam, which fortunately did not ignite.”
Due to heavy black smoke the highway was shutdown in both direction for a short time before re-opening. No foul play is suspected.
