Thunder Bay and Kenora Synergy North customers will see a rate increase on their hydro bills beginning in May. The rate adjustment was calculated using an Ontario Energy Board (OEB) approved formula, which is tied to inflation and other factors to promote efficiency. Once calculated, it was approved by the OEB.
A Synergy North Corporation spokesperson said Thunder Bay residential customers using 750 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month will see an increase of $1.64, or 1.07 per cent, on their bills. Kenora customers using the same energy will see an increase of $1.57 or 1.02 per cent.
Both Thunder Bay and Kenora small business customers using 2,000 kWh per month will see an overall monthly rate increase of $3.50 or .88 per cent.
The rate changes will take effect beginning today, and will be reflected on most customer bills by the end of this month.
For those customers who use time-of-use (TOU), tiered prices and ultra-low overnight (ULO) pricing, they will also transition to summer time rate periods on the same date.
