City of Kenora crews continue to respond across the community following Monday’s significant storm event.

They want to assure the public that crews are actively working in the community to fix and attend to issues related to flooding, sewer backups, road washouts, downed trees and drainage concerns.

The City of Kenora says at this time, response efforts are focused on assessing and repairing critical municipal infrastructure and addressing public safety concerns, including, blocked catch basins and culverts, flooded low-lying areas, flood-damaged roadways, downed trees and debris removal, wastewater system operations.

Residents whose properties have experienced basement flooding or sewer backups are encouraged to contact their insurance provider.

The Transfer Station has reopened after being closed on Tuesday.

The Rotary Splash Park continues to be closed due to the storm for the rest of the week. Playgrounds, bathrooms, beach and other services at Norman Park remain open.

Rabbit Lake Walking trails are closed due to some areas being washed out. Beach, playground, bathrooms and other areas remain open. Pickleball courts are open at half capacity.

Reports say that 90 to 100mm of rain touched down in less than 3 hours during the storm that caused significant damage in our areas and flooding is to be expected no matter the state of water and sewer infrastructure with communities or municipalities.

The City of Ottawa faced a similar situation last week receiving close to 100mm of rain which also caused significant damage and flooding in those areas.
