Second degree murder charges have been laid against a 23 year old Onigaming man in relation to a death investigation on the First Nation Community.
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS), with assistance from the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a call for service at a residence in Onigaming First Nation. An individual was located in medical distress and subsequently pronounced deceased. The deceased has been identified as 27 year old, Elijah Indian of Onigaming.
The accused is set to appear in Kenora court Thursday. There is no threat to public safety and there will be an increased police presence on the First Nation as the investigation continues.
The investigation is being conducted by the OPP North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from T3PS, OPP Forensic Identification Services, OPP North West Region Regional Support Team and Forensic Interviewing Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the OFPS.
