The 16th Annual Wauzhushk Onigum Nation Walleye Derby took place on Lake of the Woods at Powwow Island in honour of Stevie “Mitts” Powassin.

This years derby featured a mystery weight and prize in honour of Stevie plus, $10,000 prize for 1st with prizes awarded to those that placed from 1-20th place.

13 walleye were weighed in during the derby, with 3 perch weighed for the side bet.

Dakota Seymour won the derby by weighing in a 2.04lb walleye around 2:30pm in the afternoon, up until then Johna Joe Kakeway was the leader with 1.51lbs which ultimately won her a 2nd place finish.

3rd Place: Chris Adams: 1.01lbs

4th Place: Fred Sandy: 1.00 lbs

5th Place: Leona Boyd: 0.85lbs

6th Place: Carl Greene: 0.79lbs

7th Place: Cheyenne Cochrane: 0.68lbs

8th: Place Kallen Cowley: 0.58lbs

9th Place: Bodhi Pawlowski: 0.50lbs

10th Place: Eldon Copenace: 0.44lbs

11th place: Zade Skead: 0.32lbs

12th Place: Ed Seymour: 0.25lbs

13th Place: Kendrick Penace: 0.25lbs

Over 140 anglers took part from Wauzhushk Onigum, neighbouring first nations and Kenora as well.
